NYFW SS13 Wednesday: Whit, Rachel Comey, Tanya Taylor, The Sartorialist
Technically New York Fashion Week (NYFW from here on) starts today, but a few of my favorite designers and the inimitable Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist, got a jump on the gun yesterday. I love the energy and back-to-school excitement that pervades the September shows. I love seeing old friends, chatting about summer fun, and looking at gorgeous, fresh, bright and light spring dresses, shorts, skirts and perfectly cut little jackets. I can’t deny that the venue (the museum’s first ever fashion presentation) heightened the anticipation. After a considerable wait in the entrance lobby, the lucky masses were shown into the main atrium to see the feminine, chic 60s-inspired gorgeous second collection of Ms. Taylor. Inspired by the Sandy Lane hotel in Barbados (where her wedding will take place next spring) the collection was full of re-worked vintage florals, shoulder-slung jackets, cropped trousers and A-line shifts perfect for city strolling or poolside lounging, albeit very glamorous poolside lounging. Now if I could just decide which Island to fly off to…..
