Looks we Love: Zero + Maria Cornejo NYFW F/W12

The new collection from Zero + Maria Cornejo perfectly blends the technical and the natural, juxtaposing opposite proportions – taking silhouettes that almost feel antique and turning them ultra modern.  Mixing texture and stripes, vivid jewel colors and pixilated iPhone prints on oversized outerwear in superfine alpaca and long-haired shearling. Evening wear struck a balance between structure and fluidity.  I loved the pony mini-wedge ankle boots.

The Ungovernables

Way better than an over-priced set-menu restaurant meal, I spent last night with my husband at the New Museum for the opening of the 2012 triennial:  The Ungovernables.

The new show features thirty-four artists, artist groups, and temporary collectives—totaling over fifty participants—born between the mid-1970s and mid-1980s, many of whom have never before exhibited in the US.

The exhibition title, “The Ungovernables,” takes its inspiration from the concept of “ungovernability” and its transformation from a pejorative term used to describe unruly “natives” to a strategy of civil disobedience and self-determination. “The Ungovernables” is meant to suggest both anarchic and organized resistance and a dark humor about the limitations and potentials of this generation.

My favorite works included the video  ”Jewel”  by Hassan Khan, the Statue of Liberty inspired, pounded copper sculpture “WE THE PEOPLE” by DahnVõ and the massive crumbling clay sculpture by Adrián Villar Rojas.

Looks we Love: Band of Outsiders NYFW F/W12

It’s always amazing to see how Scott Sternberg threads together his inspirations and ideas through three collections presented back to back in one show for Band of Outsiders.  His sense of theatricality and flair for dramatic staging always heightens the experience.  The southwestern setting was the perfect backdrop for the earthy, clay and sunset tones present throughout both his men’s and women’s collections.  For the guys there was corduroy, wool and chino suiting, chambray shirts, degradé plaids and stripes, alpaca knits, Oaxacan embroidery, duster coats, denim and work boots.  For the ladies, rosebud and feather printed dresses, falling-rose jacquard wool blanket coats, degradé plaid, patchwork knits and floor-grazing skirts.  Every conceivable combination of fox fur, shearling and fake fur upped the glamour quotient.

a little too literally.

Looks we Love: Suno NYFW F/W12

Rushing over to Milk Studios in between my entree and dessert at the Standard Grill, I was immediately consumed by all things Suno.  Max and Erin have a way of creating an all encompassing world of swirling stripes, blown-out florals, over sized outerwear and layer upon layer of magical mix and match prints. They make perfect pants and dreamy dresses all with that covetable just-thrown-together sense of ease and cool.

Looks we Love: Rag&Bone NYFW F/W12

Let’s hear it for the boys! Bowing just hours after the birth of Marcus’s third baby, Rag&Bone delivered two of the best line-ups ever for their men’s and women’s collections on Friday.  Gorgeous greys and greens, blanket stripes and bronze metallics, floral jacquards and oversized ombre herringbone wool coats. Long duster style coats for him and her have popped up on more than one runway so far this week, and I’m imagining I’ll see more.  And I want every pair of their printed silk pants.
